The Initiative for Youth Excellence Services (IFYES) is an evolving entity that will be refined and adjusted over time as we consult and learn from our community partners. In addition, IFYES is being managed by elected Board Members. The Board has approved an Action Plan to guide the Initiative in its early years. The plan sets forth three fundamental goals:
1. To create a pipeline of support for low-income children and youth living in the Toronto neighborhood in order to enhance their physical activities by playing soccer and other activities. This will help improve their learning at all levels and increase high school graduation rates and the pursuits of higher education. It will also provide them with effective leadership skills by allowing them to build their leadership and interpersonal skills.
2. To enhance academic and co-curricular programs in order to further animate the Initiative for Youth Excellence Services mission of educating the whole person, to professional formation, and to empowering leaders for a just and humane world.
3. To build Youth neighborhood Coalition for conflict resolutions. This will be done through different approaches such as mediation between the disputants; if they agree to discuss their problem in a civilized manner, and conciliation. Conciliation differs from mediation in by the parties do not meet face-to-face and a third party intervener plays a more active role in facilitating communication to aid parties to reach a mutually agreeable outcome.
